Future Civic Leaders (FCL) is a 501c3 non-profit, non-partisan organization that empowers high-school students from underserved communities to engage, organize and change their community through the political process.
Our Flagship programs are our residential and non-residential Civic Leadership Conferences. These programs train students in the skills they will need to make tangible, sustainable changes in their communities. Once accepted into our program, they attend at no personal cost. This ensures that every student–despite their economic background–has the tools they need to actively engage in politics.
“Coming here, it made me realize anyone can make it. You don’t need your mom and dad to have all these connections, and you don’t need to be rich. You can just be a normal person. You can be involved in the government, and be a leader in any way that you can… I’m going to pursue my passion in government…It was life changing.” -Reem Hashim (2010 Conference attendee, 2011, 2012 Returning Counselor)
Our Programs have a proven record of success. After each one of our conferences, students are asked to complete an exit survey, which demonstrated that as a direct result of our program, our students are:
82% more interested in pursuing higher education, studying Government or Politics
94% more interested in Politics as a result of the program
91% more interested in working on a political campaign
71% more interested in running for elected office
89 % more self-confident
97% more comfortable speaking in front of others
While other organizations focus on lectures and textbooks, Future Civic Leader’s unique model for civic education brings students into a collaborative community environment and demonstrates, first-hand, the importance of active civic participation.
We are working to bridge the civic achievement gap by actively engaging, encouraging and rewarding civic action through a unique hands-on approach to civic education, making civics, government, and politics seem relevant, accessible and fun.
